Week 3 recap

Saskatchewan Roughriders 39 @ Toronto Argonauts  28
The roof was opened on Thursday night but only 18,211 fans showed most reports point to the flooding this week in southern Ontario as the reason why.

Rogers Centre is a really beautiful stadium when the roof is opened.

The first quarter had the Argos dominate but from the second quarter on the Riders really took control.

Craig Butler (28) was really taking it to a lot of guys last night including knocking Andre Durie out.

Kory Sheets (1) is my player of the game he had 26 carries for 178 yards and 2 TDs.

Kory Sheets mission for the single season rushing record held by Mike Pringle of 2,056 yards is definitely a possibility and  he is in my book the leading candidate for the MOP trophy this year. Go Riders Go!!!

The Riders came to Toronto as the hottest team in the CFL and left absolutely blazing as they weathered the initial storm from the Argos offense in the first half and as been their pattern this season they then proceeded to take complete control of the second half as Kory Sheets (1) was able to run the ball and the clock and keep the time of possession in the Riders favor as they coasted to their third straight win.

Calgary Stampeders 22 @ Montreal Alouettes 14
Kevin Glenn (15) stepped in for the injured Drew Tate a solid game with 268 yards passing 1 TD and no picks.

Nik Lewis (82) had a impressive diving catch Friday night.

Th offensive struggles continued for the Als as Anthony Calvillo (13) could never rally get into a rhythm behind a porous O-Line.

The lack of chemistry on offense continued for the Als as once again you could see frustration on the faces of the Als offensive players the Stamps made life hard on the Alouettes QB Calvillo all night long with a consistent pass rush. Offensive Coordinator Mike Miller and Head Coach Dan Hawkins have got to figure out what is wrong with the offense. For the Stamps Kevin Glenn started in place of injured QB Drew Tate and had a great game as he delivered good passes in key situations. These two teams will have a rematch next Saturday in Calgary.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 20 @ Hamilton Tiger Cats 25
Henry Burris (1) was the player of the game with 362 passing yards 2 TDs and no INTs.

Even with the relentless pass rush of the Bombers Burris still delivered when it mattered most.

Speaking of relentless pass rush the Bombers defense had 7 sacks and Alex Hall (96) had a hat trick with 3.

The Bombers defense had an impressive outing from their defense and their running game, but their passing game was non existent once again. The Ti-cats who usually need their offense to score 35 points or more to have a chance in a game had their defense step up big time especially at the end of the 4th quarter when Markeith Knowlton came up with a huge sack to basically seal the win for the Cats. The East Division no has a log jam with all 4 teams sporting a 1-2 record. Mediocrity abounds.

BC Lions 17 @ Edmonton Eskimos 3
The Eskimos seemed to have brought the monsoon last week in Guelph with them as this game was stuck in a massive downpour of rain all night.

Hugh Charles (7) was limited to only 36 yards rushing by a stingy Lions defense.

Travis Lulay (14) and Andrew Harris (33) both spearheaded the Lions offensive attack and used their legs to carry their team to victory.

With the rain pouring down Saturday night in Edmonton Travis Lulay showed why he is considered one of the bet QBs in this league as he had 158 yards passing with 2 TDs and no INTs along with 82 yards rushing as he led the Lions to a dominate victory over the Eskies. Matt Reilly had a rough game with only 97 yards passing no TDs and 1 INT as the Eskimos could never get anything going on offense. These teams will meet again next week in the much drier confines of BC Place stadium next  Saturday night.
