The first post

This is the first post of what I hope will be a great CFL blog. I am a CFL fan from Minnesota I know what is an american doing watching the CFL but you would be surprised how many Americans have begun watching the CFL it's a fast paced exciting game with lots of history and tradition which in my book gives the league a lot of credibility and the rules with three downs and with the bigger field and end zones is great. If you look at what the NFL is doing they are trying to manipulate the rules to make it more of a passing league because that is far more entertaining than a ground and pound snooze fest. I hope to offer in depth analysis of each team, game, and news around the league. Bringing a different perspective and some humor along the way. Thanks for reading my blog enjoy!!!

Investors Group Field will the Bombers the best home field advantage in the league. ( Well until the Riders build their stadium in 2017)
Tonight is the first game of the 2013 season which kickoffs in the beautiful brand new Investors Group Field in Winnipeg as the Bombers get set to host the Als  in front of a sold out crowd of 33,500. We can certainly expect the crowd noise to be cranked up to the max which should give the Bombers a great home field advantage, but the question going in to this one for the Bombers is can they put together an offense that can put up points and be able to hang in a shootout if the Als offense gets rolling. Which leads into the question for the Als with Marc Trestman gone to Chicago the Als will have a new coach and offensive system for the first time since 2008 how fast can they adjust and get a hold of the new system will determine their success in this game and the rest of the year. Head coach Tim Burke and GM Joe Mack of the Bombers are not jut on hot seats they are sitting on infernos its no secret Bomber fans are more than lost patience with Joe Mack, but with a new stadium hope renews for the Bomber faithful. Defensively they should be solid expect a bounce back year for Jovon Johnson and the rest secondary they will definitely be put to the test tonight against what is arguably the best receiving core in the league featuring all stars Jamel Richardson and SJ Green. While the Als are the more talented team if Buck Pierce can stay upright this game I think the energy and emotion of the home opener will propel the Bombers to victory. I expect a tight game that will be decided by which defense can make either a big stop or force a turnover in crucial late part of the game. I am going with Bombers 31 Als 28    .

Will this year be Anthony Calvillo last year?

The Als legendary quarterback is under immense pressure to succeed this year with new Head Coach Dan Hawkins the Als know that their Grey Cup hopes rest in the arm of a 40 year old player. With that being said he is still the most consistent and reliable QB in the CFL and with the addition of Arland Bruce to the receiving core and depth at the running back position he is surrounded with the weapons necessary to succeed the big question for the Als is the O-Line and the defense how much those units improve from an inconsistent 2012 season will go long way to determining where in the standings the Als will be. With all the off season moves Als GM Jim Popp is definitely feeling the pressure of the defending champs the Toronto Argonauts.

The Bomber fans will be LOUD and proud for the home opener  tonight.

  1. Decent blog, and you got a point with Toronto's fan base as they have struggled to get over 20k fans in the gate which happens to have the cheapest tickets in the cfl and is the Largest city in Canada. It's kind of sad that their fans re appeared when they made it to the grey cup last year. I'm a Hamilton native and every game thousands of fans make the trip to the sky dome. So out of the 29k fans how many were from Hamilton?, non the less Toronto needs to support their team as they wouldn't have a team if David Braley didnt bail them out ( owner of BC/TOR). Only time will tell if they will be a successful franchise again as the people of Toronto are hung up on not having a NFL team. Canadians bash the CFL more than Americans do sadly.
